Thanks Cavernously. Sorry for the late delay in responding; long hours and such. It was really hard cutting through John Gray’s arguments: he makes them well, and some of his points are very thoughtful, but I ultimately think he makes the kind of sweeping generalisations and glib dismissals, with little evidence and poor sources, more typical of pundits then anything else; a shame, because he is a genuinely provoking intellectual figure, and someone who might at least make philosophy ‘cool’ again, like it was back in the big bad Hegel days.

A minor point having little to do with the main thrust of the criticism of a book which I, admittedly, have not read:

You twice use the term “hunter gathers”. Isn’t it “hunter gatherers”? The former is, of course, a character on The Venture Brothers, but that is what you were referring to.

Then again, a quick google search reveals plenty of non-Venture results for both. I am confused!
